SOME LOVE FOR 'WORDS NEED LOVE TOO'

Kamau Brathwaite's Words Need Love Too (House of Nehesi Publishers, 2000) was called "a felicitous example of the publication of a major Caribbean writer at home" by Elaine Savory in the Harvard University journal Transition (2008).

"Words Need Love Too" is the ongoing theme for the Bim LitFest Children’s Fair, staged every other year as part of the main Bim LitFest and Book Fair in Bridgetown, Barbados.

In the run-up to the inaugural festival in 2012, Barbadian primary schoolchildren learnt a bit about Kamau and were asked how they would show words some love. They got really creative with their responses.

Kamau, George Lamming and Austin Clarke received Lifetime Achievement Awards at the inaugural festival in 2012.

The next Bim LitFest will be held May 12-14, 2016.
