for Esther on her Poet Laureate 2018

Wherever it grows there is a rose/breathing

the sky has nvr been more blue

These things are truest in my kingdom that love flowers even in the graveyard

in the pink of conch-shells lissenin this evening to the stars

i wd sing more of yr lives but i cannot find a turtledove that is sleeping in the forest

i wd walk in yr footsteps wherever you are/but i cannot find a juicy cuticle

or a door that will not open into an alarm of leaves/

i praise the amankrado there is no serpent lurking in our garden’s harbours

that will bring us into harm

Walk far from the wind/sinner of whirlwinds

spin further into yr metaphors before yr treasury of words becomes vaulted & Xhaust

The brothers i see hanging from their trees have nvr been the traitors of my pain

When i reach the end of this poem/there will be tiny grains of rain/and nuff butterflies
