Poetry and prose, outdoors.

Green Readings

Outdoor reading sessions held in gardens, gullies, on beaches, and across the island's eco-spaces — where the work being read responds to the place that holds it.

Green Readings began in 2008 as a single afternoon in Welchman Hall Gully and has since become a recurring program. Some readings are open to the public; others are closed sessions for residencies and workshops.

Literacy outreach in schools and community spaces.

Read2Me-Write4Me

Reading and writing workshops run in partnership with schools, libraries, and community organizations across Barbados. Pairs ArtsEtc writers with young readers, with a focus on Caribbean literature and student-authored response work.

Sessions are pitched at primary and lower-secondary levels. Annual showcases collect student work for publication on the journal.

A storytelling initiative.

4 Love of Barbados

Personal essays, oral histories, and short reflections gathered from across the country — stories about place, family, food, work, and the everyday textures of Barbadian life.

4 Love of Barbados started as a recurring column in the journal and has since become its own gathering project, with selected pieces released in chapbook form via AE Books.

Independent reviews and recommendations.

The IndyList

A rolling list of books, films, music, and cultural events worth your attention — curated by ArtsEtc editors and contributing critics, with an emphasis on independent and Caribbean-region work.

The IndyList is updated through the year and gathered into an annual end-of-year edition that goes out via the journal.
